About Steve

My name is Steve and I come from a family of racers, it really wasn’t something I chose to do.

Our Dad raced, both my brothers raced, our sister’s partner raced and ran World Championship solo teams etc.. you get the idea. I of course passengered for Dad and both Brothers at multiple times over the years.

Dad raced for 35 years, from 1965 until March 4th 2000 when we crashed at Lydden. This is us on the bike we were racing when Dad died.

Brother Graham raced solos as well as sidecars, to the point where he did TT on solos until an accident at the TT in 2015 put his racing on hold.

Brother Ian did the British Championship and European Championship driving sidecars, regularly in the top ten in Europe.

I passengered at all levels as a passenger but never a driver. I regularly raced club level up until I finished racing, I found it the easiest way to keep racefit.

I raced in the British Championship for many years, also European Championship for about 8 years.

I raced in the World Championship back when it was MotoGP – there’s a touch of history, and then later when the series moved across to world superbikes in 1998.

I was a Passenger from 1990 to 2010 pretty much every year then took a break til 2017 when The Bears (historic class racing) looked too much fun to ignore. I raced up until the start of covid, when we moved house and I just didn’t get back into racing after the break.

I have been running this site since around 2000. For a long part of that time for years it was the biggest and busiest sidecar website on the internet. Thankfully the pressure is now off with the big social networks taking so much traffic away but we are probably still the best informed website around, and our Facebook Group is one of the biggest Sidecar based ones in the World.

My experience is quite wide with sidecars, I have ridden on over 70 sidecars with over 60 different drivers but lost track now of the names of everyone. . I keep meaning to list them all out sometime, it’s just a shame I don’t have photos of them all but I was very much ‘living in the moment’ at the time 🙂

I don’t even know what my best results in any championships are – I know that one year it was 14th in the World Championship but there were probably only about 20 teams that year. They were mostly the best in the World though so I don’t feel too bad about it.

The gallery below is a selection of the sidecars in various classes I have passengered, yes that’s all me n the back!

We have recently moved to Kent, a lovely little village called Marden and live in a beautiful old cottage that will cost us everything and take forever to fix up tidy…
The main part of the house was built in the late 1580s, then changed over the centuries.
