Coronavirus (Covid-19) – ACU Statement Update 17/03/20

Statement on Covid-19
On behalf of ACU

It is with regret that the ACU are suspending all competition and social activity until 30th April 2020, but this will be constantly reviewed. This is in response to the emerging guidance issued by HM UK Government in response to the outbreak of COVID-19.

All permits for events during this time will be cancelled and reimbursed in full to the organising club/ promoter.    As the National Governing Body would ask all ACU Members to act responsibly and follow the Government’s guidance during this difficult time. We have a responsibility and duty of care to our staff who will be working from home, so please be patient with any queries you may have.

As of writing (17th March 2020) HM Government have advised:

  • – Persons to work from home where possible
  • – People over the age of 70 to minimise social contact
  • – Emergency services will not support mass gatherings
  • – Stop non-essential travel
  • – Avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants and cinemas

PEMBREY CIRCUIT BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

Pembrey Circuit is set for a milestone year in 2020 as it celebrates its 30th Anniversary; and it will mark the occasion by underlining its commitment to the future with the build of a brand new garage complex.

Opening its doors in 1990, the British Automobile Racing Club’s Welsh venue has become a popular track for spectators and competitors alike amidst the UK racing landscape – continuing to go from strength-to-strength over the past three decades.

With several important track developments such as the implementation of a new circuit layout, revised rallycross configuration and improved spectator banking having taken place during the past three years, the addition of this latest infrastructure is likely to bolster Pembrey’s appeal even further.

Set to be situated down the pit lane next to the circuit’s control tower, the new complex will comprise 12 double garages with capacity for 24 cars and will benefit from a vast paddock space behind.

Plater injured in enduro crash – from Phil Wain

Steve in better form before the fall

Former British Champion and multiple International road race winner Steve Plater is facing a spell of recuperation after a nasty off-road crash on Monday left him with a fractured C1 vertebrae in his neck.   The crash happened in the Welsh mountains when the Lincolnshire ace fell from his enduro bike and was hit from behind, the front wheel of the following bike hitting him directly at the back of the head with his neck taking the full force of the impact. Fortunately, his Arai helmet did a superb job in protecting his head but when he was assessed at Aberystwyth Hospital later that day, the fracture was diagnosed.

The assessment thankfully confirmed no further damage, with the C6 vertebrae that Steve damaged in a crash at the 2010 North West 200 completely unscathed but, after being released from hospital on Thursday, Steve travelled to Manchester for further checks and opinion.

Steve would like to express his thanks to Arai Europe, Acerbis UK for their excellent protection and all of the staff at Aberystwyth Hospital.

Experienced passenger looking for safe ride in the british f2 championship, currently holding clubman licence nearly national licence.

I have passengered most circuits on the F2 championship rota and I am race fit ready to go, I would be happy to do any testing or with the team before hand to make sure we get on and can progress through the year to achieve team goals.

I am hands on with the outfit and with communicating with the driver to work through issues or making adjustments.

Possible 2 day test at Blyton Park

Simon Gilbert is trying to get a list together of sidecar teams who would take part in a 2 day test at Blyton Park (near Gainsborough) end of February/early March.

Simon would have to hire the circuit and get everyone to share the cost – so is looking for at least 10 teams for both days to get the cost down to 300 for the weekend, the more people go the cheaper it will get. This is comparable to a club meeting entry price but of course a load more track time, basically open circuit.

The date is not set yet, this is to gauge interest so speak to Si and when he has a few people interested he will work everything out. You can find more details of Blyton Park on their website, click the logo below.

The dates section

I have started updating the calendar. It is not all on there yet but give me a week or two and most will be there.

The menu sections will change and evolve a bit over the next few weeks as we find what should be there and what doesn’t need to be on there.

At the moment there is the option for All Dates or dates by category. When you have clicked into the calendar you can now search, view by list, month or day and I shall add the relevant websites and venues links to each event as time allows. It should be good.
