COSTELLO & STOKOE RETURN TO SIDECAR RACING WITH NEW PERSONAL BEST
Maria Costello MBE made her return to racing after a year out of action and claimed a new personal best competing on her LCR Sidecar at the BMCRC-MRO Championships at Donington Park at the weekend.
The Northamptonshire racer’s entire schedule of road racing was scrapped this year because of the Covid19 crisis that shut down much of the country.
Maria could finally make her return to short-circuit sidecar racing thanks predominantly to new sponsor RAM Safety Solutions Ltd and continued support from NGK Spark Plugs UK Ltd, Mark Coverdale and MJW Specialists.

Today (1st September) the Wirral Hundred’s committee, after consulting with the Anglesey Circuit and after taking into account the continuing uncertainty and anomalies over the Welsh Government’s strict Covid-19 lockdown restrictions banning sporting events involving more than 30 people, agreed regrettably, in the absence of any tangible easing of the restrictions, to cancel the Club’s ‘Anglesey Grand’ race meeting scheduled for 10th & 11th October. The sadness is that so far no motorcycle road race meetings have taken place in Wales in 2020.

An article from Andrew ‘Angus’ Brooke
MoTeC is a fairly expensive bit of kit, so do your research in what you are buying. I will be telling you rough prices of new kit, and things to keep eye out for with second hand.
THIS IS NOT A SALES PITCH, instead I want to inform. I have no issues with other systems, or second hand kit, but sometimes deals aren’t as good as they appear.

Continue readingAvon Tyres to support all rounds again in 2020
We are delighted to have the ongoing support of Avon Tyres our approved tyre supplier for the revised 2020 season. The relationship with Avon is well established, and they are a vital component in sidecar racing worldwide.

The opening round at Cadwell Park is the first time we will see our friendly Avon colleagues and at every round thereafter.
We are, however, anxious to make all teams aware that for the Knockhill date (September 19/20) the large Avon truck will not be heading North. They will service our needs from a smaller vehicle carrying a representative supply but will not have unlimited stock on board.
Teams are therefore advised to consider their potential needs and maybe make use of the large Avon stock at the preceding round at Snetterton BSB.
Not long to wait now boys and girls, Cadwell Park approaches.

Update from Bemsee
We’ve mentioned before….as things stand today for us nothing has particularly changed – the next key date is July 4th when ACU race permits may become available to Clubs, in line with current government plans. For things to get back to some normality the government would need to release the restriction on overnight camping. That’s a key component in Clubs being able to arrange events over more than 1 day.

from Barry Nutley
Whilst the Coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc across sport, there are significant stirrings in the world of motorcycle racing. MotoGP and organisers have published a plan to go racing from July, and MSVR, the promoters of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship are busily putting together a revised schedule which will deliver a meaningful series in 2020. The Molson Group British Sidecars are inextricably linked with BSB and we eagerly await those announcements to get our own season back on track.

Statement on Covid-19
On behalf of ACU
It is with regret that the ACU are suspending all competition and social activity until 30th April 2020, but this will be constantly reviewed. This is in response to the emerging guidance issued by HM UK Government in response to the outbreak of COVID-19.
All permits for events during this time will be cancelled and reimbursed in full to the organising club/ promoter. As the National Governing Body would ask all ACU Members to act responsibly and follow the Government’s guidance during this difficult time. We have a responsibility and duty of care to our staff who will be working from home, so please be patient with any queries you may have.
As of writing (17th March 2020) HM Government have advised:
- – Persons to work from home where possible
- – People over the age of 70 to minimise social contact
- – Emergency services will not support mass gatherings
- – Stop non-essential travel
- – Avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants and cinemas
